We Praise You

It’s no secret things in life are a tad topsy turvy right now. What once was no longer is. What never was now is the reality. It’s uncomfortable to say the least. It’s inconvenient to be certain. And if we’re being honest, times are a tad scary right now. If you listen to the reports coming out in any regularity, then you’ve undoubtedly heard the reference to an invisible enemy. When we feel attacked by enemies we can see and even those we can’t see it’s a time for us to reevaluate our focus and our priorities.

Eerily Quiet

I took a drive the other day just to escape the isolation for a bit. It was eery just how quiet things were just about everywhere I went. The store lights were all off. Signs saying temporarily closed were on doors of countless stores. There was an eery quiet in the air that was disturbing. So why is the quiet so hard? Why is this forced downtime so challening?

21 Years

Last year was a pretty horrific year for singer/songwriter Toby Mac. He lost his son tragically and unexpectedly. No one can understand the devastation that occurs when a parent loses a child of any age. As I write this a brother in Christ and his wife are mourning the loss of their new born son. They were able to be with him for just a few short days. Toby had his son for 21 years. The pain of both is devastating to say the least.

What Mr. Bill Taught Me About The Magi

Today is Epiphany and it was one of Mr. Bill’s favorite days of the year! If you’re not sure what Epiphany is give me a minute and I’ll explain. But first Mr. Bill was a great friend and my personal mentor. He walked with me through some pretty rough stuff and always pushed me to be stronger in my faith. Unfortunately for me he was called to heaven a couple of years ago. It’s unfortunate for me because there isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t think of the impact this man had on my preaching and teaching. But it’s so fortunate for him because he is where he longed to be! He’s living the Epiphany life!

I Will Fear No More

This week is going to be one of those weeks to be sure. Yesterday I received a phone call from my dad letting me know that my grandma (the one I call Omi) has started to walk down the road that will ultimately lead her into Jesus’ arms. It could be days. It could be weeks. It could even be months. There’s only one person who knows and he’s the reason we can fear no more.

How Selfish Are You Really?

It’s rare that I’ll post something on a Sunday but I found this quote that really got me thinking. I could have scheduled it to post at a later time but this one just had to be put out there. My normal Sunday morning routine typically involves getting to my office well before anyone else arrives. I read through the Bible verses for that morning, look through my translation notes, drink my coffee, pray, eat a little something. Then if I have a little time to spare I’ll scroll through my social media feeds to clear notifications from the night. This morning was no different. But as I was scrolling through one of my feeds, a quote popped up that got me thinking. How selfish are we?

Submission, Love, & Life

This week we took another chunk of Paul’s letter to the church of the Colossians. Up until this point we’ve seen Paul tell us to follow Christ. He’s been pretty specific about how important it is to follow but pretty abstract about what that looks like in our day to day lives. Here in Colossians 3:18-4:1 he takes time to break this down and applies it to our most critical life relationships.

Borrow (One Day At A Time)

Anxiety! Worry! Fear! Stress! They’re everywhere! Just turn the corner and a new mountain of tasks mounts on yoru desk and another pile of to-do’s is added to your list. Then consider back to school, extracurriculars, keeping the house organized, the big project at work, Christmas is really not that far away, volunteer hours, and the list goes on and on. It’s almost like there’s just too much worry to be able to healthily manage our day to day affairs!

What Do You Believe About Sin?

This week we’ll begin a new series on the blog about belief. Knowing what we believe is critical. So often however we float through life simply going through the motions. In a recent study, random passers-by were asked what they believed about a variety of faith matters. In the next several weeks we’ll cover this list of beliefs, what many believe and what the bible teaches about these beliefs.  Continue reading

Call It Grace

There’s something about being a follower of Jesus that just doesn’t make sense to many people. Maybe you’re one of them. I get it. If I’m looking at it with my simple eyes, it just doesn’t make sense. I mean really. The foundation of the Christian faith is Jesus and his death and resurrection. Think about it for just half a second. Who does that? Who could believe that a man would willingly die that kind of death for people he’d never even met?! It’s craziness! And that says nothing about raising from the dead!?! Continue reading
