This week we pull one from the archives. The song is I AM. It’s a song about the power of the one who holds us when we can’t hold on ourselves. Yesterday was Easter. It’s the day that made this song more powerful. It was the day of hope and joy beyond explaining.

In life we often feel like we don’t measure up. We try but fail. We get overwhelmed. We miss out on great times. We so often feel like nothing. We feel like we’re too far gone. We feel like God’s love can’t possibly reach us. We feel like we’ve betrayed him too much. We feel like there can’t be forgiveness for us.

But what if salvation wasn’t about us but was for us? What if forgiveness wasn’t about our works but Jesus’ work? What if Easter wasn’t just about a bunny and some eggs?

This week’s MusicMonday is a repeat from a couple of weeks ago but it’s an important song for us this week. You see Easter is about God coming to us. It’s about him loving us while we were still a mess. It’s about God sending his Son to take our place and give us his place in exchange.

I AM. It’s the name of God in the Old Testament. The idea behind I AM is that there’s nothing that this name doesn’t mean. The verb to be can be past, present and future. It means that he was, is and always will be. When, in the New Testament, Jesus said I AM he was claiming this name for himself. I AM. God is. That’s pretty powerful.

So when you don’t know if you are enough, God is! When you don’t think you can be forgiven, God is! When you don’t measure up, God is! When all you can find are bunnies and eggs on Easter, it’s time to look beyond the glitz and glamour of the holiday and see the cross and the tomb. There’s nothing on the cross. There’s nothing in the tomb. What do you need to add to what Jesus has done? Nothing! Why? Be cause Jesus says, I AM!
