Confidence Sanctus Real

Sometimes the things of life are just out of this world gigantic! I’ve come across mountains that were far too large for me to climb! I’ve been face to face with giants that could have and honestly should have annihilated me! I’m not sure about you but there are some things in this life that have all but crushed me. Continue reading

Be Rich: Margin

This Sunday we start a new series at Living Word Galena titled Be Rich. This series is all about looking at our lives with a different set of lenses. This series isn’t only about finances, although admittedly there is a financial aspect to our being rich. We’re also looking at time and energy and reflection. How do you spend your life? That’s the real question we’re addressing over the next several weeks.  Continue reading

Good Fight

Fight or flight? Which is your go to? I know some people who run for the hills when trouble hits. They bury their head in the sand or flee and retreat to a corner and just break. Then there are the other kinds of people who come out with guns blazing ready to take out anyone who comes in the way of their ideas. Which are you? And is there a better option?  Continue reading

Call It Grace

There’s something about being a follower of Jesus that just doesn’t make sense to many people. Maybe you’re one of them. I get it. If I’m looking at it with my simple eyes, it just doesn’t make sense. I mean really. The foundation of the Christian faith is Jesus and his death and resurrection. Think about it for just half a second. Who does that? Who could believe that a man would willingly die that kind of death for people he’d never even met?! It’s craziness! And that says nothing about raising from the dead!?! Continue reading

Resurrection Power

As we restart our #musicmonday selection back up again for a new school year, we start with a song that shows new beginnings. As some of you know, I serve as Pastor at Living Word Galena. Through the past few weeks we’ve been talking about a man named Jonah who ran from God, ended up being eaten by a fish and then spit out on land. You can check the messages out here, but just think about that for a second. Swallowed by a fish and then thrown up on land for a second chance! How cool is that!  Continue reading

Wave Walker

This summer has been dedicated to stories of water in the bible for our children in summer Sunday School and Children’s Worship. We’ve been looking at stories of everything from Noah and the ark to Moses parting the Red Sea. Soon we’ll be looking at Peter walking on water, undoubtedly one of my favorite stories that involves Peter and Jesus!  Continue reading

Define Me

Growing up I was taught that the Devil was a scary creature with horns on his head, a pitch fork in his hand and a long spiky tail. I was taught that he looked like a monster that was out to scare us. I knew that if I saw him, I could just run away and hide because honestly who wears a red suit and always yells and screams at everyone?  Continue reading

Joy

This week we started a new series in our worship at Living Word Galena. It’s a study all about the book Song of Songs. While the words of this book are pretty raw, it has a powerful message for all of us. I’m using this week’s Music Monday as a response to that raw yet powerful message.  Continue reading

All My Hope

There are days in life when reality strikes you square between the eyes. Days when your past catches up to you. Days when your struggles become all too real. There are days when moments turn to eternity as you feel the pain of regret and shame. There are days when you look in the mirror and can’t believe the person you’ve become. Days when all hope seems lost. Continue reading

Unraveled

Several weeks as worship ended, one of the ladies at church who’s a hugger did the usual hug on the way out the door. She was wearing one of those nicely knit sweaters and I had my lapel microphone clipped on my tie. As she backed away from the hug we realized that we were still connected. The clasp on my microphone grabbed her sweater and didn’t want to let go. The farther she pulled, the more the sweater began to unravel. Continue reading
