Angels We Have Heard On High

This is Christmas week! It’s finally here! I know we’ll all be tempted to rush through this week in an attempt to just get it over with. What a shame! Christmas isn’t something to just get over with. As a matter of fact I even found myself in this train of thought this year. We were under construction at church, several family events leading up to Christmas, all of the extra worship services to prep, hospital and shut-in visits to make, and the list seemed to go on and on. I was just ready to wake up on December 28th and have it all behind me.  Continue reading

Silent Night

As you are probably well aware, Christmas is about a week and a half away. With all of the prep for the big day, it’s pretty easy to get a bit lost in the shuffle. This week we’re going to slow things down quite a bit and take a minute to celebrate the beauty of this precious season. Continue reading

Little Drummer Boy

I thought it was time to change things up a little bit. After all, we’re only 3 weeks from Christmas! Are you ready? Are you getting it all set so that this will be the BEST Christmas ever? This time of year we hustle around to get the right gift for that special someone. We look high and low. We hunt the ads, bulldoze people through the store lines to get that door buster deal.  Continue reading

’twas the night before Christmas

Nativity_tree2011Twas the night before Christmas, when Mary and Jo
In a manger were resting for their baby to show
A stable was where they would make up their beds
And straw was the pillow they’d use for their heads.

The evening was ending, the time was at hand
A baby named Jesus was born in that land.
She wrapped him up tight and swaddled him close
With this child came God’s love, and a heavenly dose! Continue reading

The Greatest Gift: Clothes

Rarely do kids enjoy getting clothing for Christmas. It’s just a let down. You can’t play with them. So how can the Greatest Gift of Christmas be clothes? Listen as Pastor Derrick explains the importance of the right clothes.

Family Fun in Advent

CIMG_1520ounting down the days to Christmas can be a difficult task for parents and children alike. All the little ones want is to get to Christmas morning, and the parents just want the waiting to be over. The children grow increasingly less patient as the decorations come out of storage and the tree is lit in the evenings.

In our house we’ve had a tradition of using an Advent calendar to lead us to Christmas morning. These are pretty cool little things and very simple. Each day our children will open a new door in the calendar to receive a piece of chocolate. Continue reading

It’s a SMALL World

My12714.blog family loves to go to Disney world for vacation. I’ve been going there since I was a small child. While the Disney corporation is constantly trying to be on the cutting edge of technology and products, there is something about their Orlando-based park that is a staple to say the least. Every time we go to the Magic Kingdom theme park we absolutely have to ride It’s a Small World. That ride has been there for as long as I’ve been going and it hasn’t changed in all those years. But why? Why is it a staple, and why hasn’t it changed?

Advent…what’s it all about?

Whether you’re part of a church community advent2.blogor not, you’ve probably heard people talking about this thing called Advent. But what exactly is Advent? What does it feel mean? Why do people gather in churches on Wednesday nights and Sunday mornings during this busy season? What’s it all about anyway?

Wait!

0e1407027_waiting-series-graphicNo one likes to wait. We’ve established businesses and systems to prevent us from having to wait in long lines. Amusement parks fill your wait time with fun activities to distract you from the long wait time.

My family loves to travel to Disney World for our family vacations. I must admit, when you’re at Disney you better plan on waiting. Continue reading
