Broken Things

I’m not sure about you but so often I look at my life and realize that I am certainly not worthy to have the things I have. True I’ve worked hard to be where I am. I’ve gone to school and graduated with pretty good grades. I’ve held jobs I didn’t like and work some pretty killer hours to make a decent living, but these things don’t make me worthy. They just show my work ethic. When I talk worthy, I mean that I really don’t deserve the goodness that’s in my life.  Continue reading

Beautiful Things

I have to say my favorite time of year is just around the corner. The Fall is the season when the world, in my opinion, is at its peak. Few things are more beautiful than the feel of the cool morning air, the sound of people having fun outside, the color on the trees changing to vibrant shades of orange and red. Few things in life are more precious than the pink and purple highlights in the sky on one of those breathtaking sunsets (or for us morning people a striking sunrise). But one thing is significantly more beautiful than all of these.  Continue reading

Love Can…Go Anywhere

Many of us are going someplace new this fall. Some of us are going to a new school, others to college for the first time, some will have a new teacher, others a new neighbor or new house. While we can’t predict what new things will happen, we can be certain that new is always different and different is often a little frightening. Listen this week as Pastor Derrick wraps up our series titled LOVE Can by showing how Love Can Go Anywhere.

Tell Me

I hate being a failure. I hate it when things don’t go the way I have planned in my head. I’m one of those type-A kind of people. We look ahead so far and see things coming often before they actually occur. I’m not psychic by any means. Just part of how God built me. But sometimes when a person like this fails to see something coming, or when the circumstances change, and we fail at something its way to easy to feel like a failure.  Continue reading

Love Can…Make A Difference

Just knowing that someone is there for you is a huge help! It’s easy to let loneliness turn into the feeling that we’re completely alone. But when we realize the power of God’s love for us we soon realize that no matter how lonely we feel, we’re never really alone.

Come To The Table

Have you ever felt like you just didn’t belong? Maybe like an outsider? Perhaps you were in the middle of a crowd of people and you still felt all alone. Imagine a time when it seemed no one cared, no one even noticed you were around. Imagine the heartbreak you would feel. Imagine sitting all alone at the table in the cafeteria at school. Then hear the invitation.  Continue reading

Love Can…Free Us

It’s all too easy to look backward. It’s easy to get trapped in this silly cycle of what happened before. We focus on the rituals and the things that have always been done but if we don’t know why – does it really matter? When Jesus came he changed our focus from the way we are to the way he is. Now his love has freed us to set our faces to what is ahead. Love can free us.

Survivor

This week we talked about name tags in our sermon series titled Love Can. The idea is that we all wear name tags but those name tags don’t have to stick. Actually those name tags aren’t ours to wear. These name tags are false, fake, and do not define us.  Continue reading

Love Can…

What name tags do you wear in life? We all wear them. Some of them are good ones. Some of them are the ones we should wear, but some of them are lies. They are name tags put on us by other people. They are name tags we pick up as we compare ourselves to other people. Listen as Pastor Derrick shares how God’s love can define us and give us a new name.
