Deliverer

And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead,
Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come.

1 Thessalonians 1:10

What an incredible start to our Advent devotions – Our Lord, our Deliverer! The Thessalonians knew firsthand what it is to be delivered from seeking after empty things. Don’t we know it, too? The stresses of the Christmas season build, the pressures of the “get it all done and get it done well” oppress, and the worries of life don’t fade entirely just because we’re in the middle of a time made for cheer and goodwill, according to card companies. This Advent Season, let us find rest in our Deliverer, and allow His good gifts to bring peace and joy to our souls.

Is It Worth It?

Have you ever asked yourself if it’s worth it? You look at your life and realize that you try to keep yourself out of trouble. You try to treat people with respect and dignity. You try to stay clear of trouble and put the best construction on everything. You spend time in worship. You read your bible. You try to obey the commandments. But you don’t really seem to be getting anywhere in this world.  Continue reading

The Emptiness of Mediocrity

How are you? It’s a simple question that we will hear, if not say ourselves, multiple times every day. But how do you respond? Are you one of those who respond with I’m ok? I believe that OK is just a copout on a bigger reality. I believe we’re never supposed to be just OK.  Continue reading

You Can Only Choose One

Ok so these two pictures aren’t really all that clear but in person these paintings were quite tremendous! The color, texture and clarity of the paintings were definitely of fine quality. They were both signed by the artist and perhaps they are of great worth. I’m not an art critic so I’m honestly not all that sure. Continue reading

Listen For The Whistle

I’m really not much of a pool person. Perhaps it’s because my abs are hidden somewhere below an extra level of insulation. Perhaps it’s because I’m not all that keen on being in a pool where who knows what all is floating around in the water! But I believe there’s something we can learn from our hot summer days at the pool. Continue reading

Shepherd, Sheep, & Savior

The Bible contains a lot of great nuggets of wisdom, and Luke is one of those writers that just seems to give us extra tidbits of information that make things really interesting. In worship, we’re discussing the stories in the book of Luke known as the lost parables.  Continue reading

I Wasn’t Expecting That!

If you’ve ever flown on a plane, you’ve undoubtedly heard the flight attendant say something like, “in the unlikely event of a water evacuation your seat bottom cushion can be used as a flotation device.” Why do they start a plane ride with these words? As if some people aren’t nervous enough as it is! Then you add, oh by the way there’s a chance we might crash and you’re going to have to swim using your seat to keep you afloat! Um, no thanks…I’ll walk! Continue reading

Dirt Talk

It’s always a great time when 10 high schoolers, 3 college students and a young adult gather in your living room. The sun was shining so we spent some time on the patio. We enjoyed a few tacos and then sat down for a little dirt talk.  Continue reading

Cherish The Mundane

Everywhere you look bigger and better and faster and stronger are all the craze. We put in longer hours to get ahead in life. We set bigger goals and have flashy ideas. We all want to go somewhere and be something in life. It’s hard to be content with the normal, ordinary, regular, mundane and simple kind of life.  Continue reading
