Counter Cultural – Part 2

In a day and age riddled with personal agenda and opinion, it’s easy to miss the point. Our culture would have us believe that life is a matter of choice or decision. But where else in our life is anything a real matter of choice? Listen this week as Pastor Derrick shares why life matters, and for that matter…whose life matters.

How Much Do You Need To Know?

CPC-ProtectionInAction-Header-knowledge-centerKnowledge is a great thing! We strive for deeper knowledge at every turn. From a very early age we seek to grow through learning. We learn from our parents as they talk us through new tasks. We learn as we watch people do things we’ve never attempted. We learn from teachers, pastors, grandparents, and so many other grown-ups in our lives. Our society is driven by the idea of gaining knowledge. We ask our young people what their plans are after high school. We apply pressure to our young adults when we ask what they want to “do with the rest of the lives.” It’s all about more and more knowledge! Continue reading

Eye Of The Storm

hqdefaultThe idea of a storm is often an intriguing thought. There’s something mesmerizing about sitting through a rain storm. As the drops tick on the roof, the wind begins to pick up speed causing the siding on your house to flex with the increased pressure. Storms are often fun and exciting especially when the grass and other vegetation needs the rain. But when the storms pick up and the alerts begin to sound the intrigue of the storm changes to concern and sometimes fear.  Continue reading

What’s In Your Wake?

WakeI recently had the opportunity to spend a day on the water with some friends. We tooled around Alum Creek on their boat. We talked. We ate. We relaxed. We went tubing around the water. It was great fun. But while I was being dragged behind the boat in the tube, I began to think about the power of a wake.  Continue reading

Joy Of The Lord

Rend CollectiveYesterday was a pretty fun day! I have to be honest that I don’t say that very frequently. Yesterday was Sunday and at the church I serve, we held worship outside. And it was just plain fun. We had a great time just enjoying each other’s company. The weather was hot but when we thought we’d burn up the breeze blew through our worship pavilion. We sang some songs that to some might seem a bit silly. We did motions that forced us to raise our hands and even dance a little. And if you don’t know anything about the church tradition to which I belong that’s a fairly big deal!  Continue reading

In Christ Alone

13679910_10210214947715316_2317998591010456320_oThis past week I had the privilege of visiting the city of New Orleans with some pretty amazing people. There were 11 of us total from the congregation I serve, but we met up with a larger group. It was a great of over 25,000 people from around the world! The vast majority of these 25,000 people were high school youth who descended upon the streets of New Orleans for one purpose – to learn and to live Jesus.  Continue reading

Can’t Hold Me Down

SpokeFolkOn Friday night last week, I had the wonderful privilege of meeting 35 people who took to the streets of Columbus on their bicycles as part of a SpokeFolk tour 2016. They ride around 40-50 miles a day and stay in churches, schools, and just about anyplace that will allow them to overnight. They don’t require a whole lot of amenities as they “shower” in the garden hose on the back lawn! They sleep on the floor in whatever space is available. They are great!  Continue reading
