I recently had the opportunity to spend a day on the water with some friends. We tooled around Alum Creek on their boat. We talked. We ate. We relaxed. We went tubing around the water. It was great fun. But while I was being dragged behind the boat in the tube, I began to think about the power of a wake. Continue reading

Yesterday was a pretty fun day! I have to be honest that I don’t say that very frequently. Yesterday was Sunday and at the church I serve, we held worship outside. And it was just plain fun. We had a great time just enjoying each other’s company. The weather was hot but when we thought we’d burn up the breeze blew through our worship pavilion. We sang some songs that to some might seem a bit silly. We did motions that forced us to raise our hands and even dance a little. And if you don’t know anything about the church tradition to which I belong that’s a fairly big deal! Continue reading
This past week I had the privilege of visiting the city of New Orleans with some pretty amazing people. There were 11 of us total from the congregation I serve, but we met up with a larger group. It was a great of over 25,000 people from around the world! The vast majority of these 25,000 people were high school youth who descended upon the streets of New Orleans for one purpose – to learn and to live Jesus. Continue reading
On Friday night last week, I had the wonderful privilege of meeting 35 people who took to the streets of Columbus on their bicycles as part of a SpokeFolk tour 2016. They ride around 40-50 miles a day and stay in churches, schools, and just about anyplace that will allow them to overnight. They don’t require a whole lot of amenities as they “shower” in the garden hose on the back lawn! They sleep on the floor in whatever space is available. They are great! Continue reading
Stop for just a second. Turn off the television and the radio. Sit in silence for just a couple of minutes and listen to the voices swirling around inside your head. What do you hear resounding over and over? In our world there are tons of voices vying for our attention. Everyone wants to bend our ear with their important information, but not all of it is worth listening to. Not all of these voices are the right ones for our ears. So which one do is right and how do we know? Continue reading
Who am I? Ever wondered what is the reason that good things happen to you? Ever wonder why you are blessed beyond measure? Ever wonder why even though bad things happen in your life, you’re still held in such high esteem by God that you are in awe? Continue reading
Have you ever seen one of those Where’s Waldo books? The premise of the is to find a character on each page. The character is Waldo. He’s dressed in a red and white striped shirt and blue jeans with a stocking cap. Some of the pages are quite easy to find this little man hiding among the green trees. But other pages are almost impossible! I remember a page in a Where’s Waldo book from my childhood that had Waldo in his red and white striped outfit marching with thousands of others in a crowded city. These thousands of others were also wearing red and white stripes and playing instruments. Needless today that one took quite a while to find but I remember the great sense of accomplishment when I was actually able to see Waldo! Continue reading
A cornerstone is a key part of any building structure. It’s said that the building rests on that particular stone to gain its maximum strength. If this is true, the cornerstone is critical. You don’t want a cornerstone made out of a soft material. You don’t want a cornerstone for your building made from a material that is ever-changing. You want a cornerstone that is solid, planted firmly, and never moving. Continue reading
Have you ever done the trust fall? You know the fall where you face away from someone and then fall backward trusting that they’ll be there to catch you? If you’ve ever done this you know that it is way harder than you think at first. I remember doing this one time and thinking that I’d be able to do this with no problem. I knew the guys behind me, and I was confident that they’d catch me. But when it came down to actually falling blindly into their arms, I just couldn’t do it.
Early on Sunday morning while many of us were asleep a tragedy struck a nightclub in Orlando. You’ve undoubtedly heard of the happenings so we won’t dwell on that too much. You’ve also most assuredly heard the spin that’s happening in the news media and all over social networks. The big question people are asking is who’s to blame?
