Undeserving. It’s a simple word that pretty much sums up a large portion of my life. There are so many pats of my life that are simply more than I deserve. If I’m being honest what I deserve isn’t really worth talking about but what I have is worth bragging about to everyone. I mean think about life for a minute. How many people have we let down and failed? Yet for some reason they still care about us.

Let down. It’s a terrible feeling. When you are counting on someone to help and they never show. When someone makes a promise that is left unfulfilled. When you’re left alone by those who are supposed to be by your side all of the time. Whatever the let down it’s terrible to be on the receiving end! But how often are you on the giving end of a let down?

This week’s MusicMonday is about let downs, but not the kind when someone lets us down. This song is about how we let God down. Think about it for a second. We’re called to be perfect as God is perfect. We’re told that any movement from the exact requirements of the law (something we call sin) is deserving of death. Paul states it clearly in Romans 6.

The wages of sin is death.

Sin. Any sin, big or small in our eyes, all carries the same penalty. Now check out this part of today’s song. These words talk about let downs on a much grander scale than showing up late or not keeping a promise.

I am the thorn in your crown
But You love me anyway
I am the sweat from Your brow
But You love me anyway
I am the nail in Your wrist
But You love me anyway
I am Judas’ kiss
But You love me anyway

The point of this entire song is that no matter what we’ve done God, in Christ, still loves us anyway. We can’t out-sin God’s love. We can’t outrun God’s relentless pursuit. This song echoes my favorite word – nothing.

There's nothing you can do to make God love you anymore, and there's nothing you can do to make him love you any less. Click To Tweet

Remember that in everything, God loves you anyway. He always has and always will. Nothing is a pretty powerful word and I pray you hear that word loud and clear today.
