What are we supposed to do? Should we wear a mask or not? Should we have our extended family over for that party? What about getting together with friends? Will you shop at a store that mandates masks? These are just some of the questions I’ve heard the past several weeks. The answers to these questions are as varied as the people who ask them.

Then the issue arises with how you react when someone doesn’t agree with you. Can you still be civil with someone who doesn’t approach life the same way as you? How do you handle it when someone makes a decision that goes against your preferences? Will our differences end up dividing us?

It doesn’t take much to realize that division is all around us. Division is fine in the math classroom but when it comes to how we live our lives, division has no place in our relationships, families, churches or society. And yet for some reason division creeps its way in often without our even knowing it.

We have become a people that are far more divided than we realize. We’re divided by our political persuasion. We’re divided by the style of music we listen to. We’re divided on things that are merely a matter of personal preference. There are so many things in this life that put us in separate camps in life! We can’t give in and let our differences cause division!

This week in church we talked about division and how it’s not healthy at all. Division is what will bring an organization, community or even nation to the ground. Division turns family against one another. Division causes churches to crumble. Division weakens a nation to the point they are easily overtaken. Division is a tool of the enemy and must not be given room to fester.

So how do we as a people of God handle division? How do we approach the differences we have in life? This week I shared how division has the potential to wreak havoc in an organization like the church. I also shared how we are to address the division when it happens.
