Our culture tells us that being reckless is a back thing. When you’re reckless, you generally are not cautious. You throw caution to the wind and just go out and things without thinking about the ramifications of your actions. You cross the street without looking. You spend without checking your account balance. You schedule a meeting without looking at your calendar. You drive whatever speed you choose without caring about the speed limit. These are reckless behaviors that could end with some not so good results!

But what if we were reckless with good things? Things like compliments and smiles directed at one another. What if we acted without thinking when it came to out doing one another with kindness? There’s a bible verse that talks about this from Romans 12:10.

Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor.

The idea of out doing one another is completely different from how we try to outdo one another normally. Instead of trying to have more and bigger and better, we are called to serve more fully and completely. Instead of putting one another down in order to feel better about ourselves, we’re called to lift one another up. Instead of loving only those who give us something or treat us well, we’re called to show this kindness to all people (especially the royal pains in the butt!)

Today’s music Monday is a pretty powerful song to say the least. It shows the depth of God’s love for us. It reminds us that when we were completely and totally unloveable Christ loved us without end. It shows that while we were still his enemies, God sent His Son for us. That’s reckless to say the least!

Here’s the chorus for the song. These words are so strong and powerful:

And oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God
Oh, it chases me down, fights ’til I’m found, leaves the ninety-nine
And I couldn’t earn it, and I don’t deserve it, still,
You give Yourself away

Oh, the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God.

Can you see it? Can you see how counter-cultural and absolutely reckless that is? Chased us down when we didn’t even know we were lost! Fights for us until we’re found! Leaving all those who are safe and secure to come and rescue us! Nothing in me deserves this kindness, this pursuing love of God. And that’s what makes it reckless! Today I pray you find yourself smothered in the reckless love of a God who pursues you, fights for you, finds you, overwhelms you with His presence and power. The reckless love of God is for you!
